Face Exercise For The Eyes

You can tell quite a lot about a person when you look at their eyes. In fact, if you study psychology and body language, you will learn that what a person does with their eyes when they are speaking can give a good indication as to how truthful they are being and their overall level of self-confidence.

For example, if a person looks up and to the right (your right) when they are speaking with you, then they are probably remembering something that actually happened. If however, they suddenly shift up and to the left, then they are most likely imagining something that didn’t really happen and so are probably lying to you.

Furthermore, if a person avoids making eye contact, or can’t look you in the eyes for very long, then they may have something to hide or are simply shy and lack self-confidence.

How Old Are You?

You don’t have to be a psychologist to make an assessment of someone based on their eyes, as this is something that we all do without even thinking about it. Of course, we can also use the state of a person’s eyes to judge many other things about them such as their age.

A person who has crow’s-feet, droopy eyelids and bags underneath their eyes for example, is naturally going to be judged by others as being older than someone who does not have crows feet, droopy eyelids or eye bags. These judgements happen in a split second, and can instantly cause people to form a certain impression about you.

Time To Look Younger

In this article, we are going to be looking at some face exercises that you can do to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, especially in the corners, and reduce the amount of sagging skin that you have above your eyes in the upper eyelid and eyebrow regions, and the lower eyelid regions of the face.

All of these face exercises work on the principle of strengthening the muscles that sit underneath your skin and support it. Over time with age, these muscles become weak and soft causing the skin to wrinkle and sag above it. By working out these muscles however, you should be able to strengthen those muscles and cause the skin on your face to tighten giving you a natural face lift effect.

Of course, the results that you get from face lifting exercises, sometimes called face yoga exercises, won’t be as dramatic as a surgical face lift performed by a cosmetic surgeon. But these face exercises can still be very useful for helping to slow down the signs of aging, and for helping to restore a more youthful looking appearance to a face that has aged prematurely.

Face exercises are therefore best suited for those with young or young/mature skin, so anyone who is aged 50 and below should be able to gain some benefit from doing them. Results from facial exercises usually take about 1-3 months of consistent effort to show, and providing you keep doing the facial exercises for long enough, you will eventually notice those results.

However, if you are planning to commit to doing facial exercises for several months, then you may want to take a photograph of your face, without makeup, when you first start doing face exercises, and then again at the end of 3 months, or at the end of every month. This way you will be able to see what sort of results you are getting, as the changes to your face and eye area will be so subtle that you won’t notice them by looking at your face every day.

Skin Care Notes

All of the following facial exercises for your eyes involve touching your skin with your hands. For this reason, you should make sure to clean your hands before touching your skin, as otherwise you may end up transferring bacteria to the eyes or to the skin around the eyes which could then cause zits and pimples to appear.

You may also find it helpful to have your skin lightly moisturized when doing these facial exercises, so most people do eye exercises in conjunction with their normal everyday skin care routine. So try to get into the habit of doing your eye exercises in the morning and at night, either before or after you wash, cleanse, tone and moisturize your face.

Once you make the following eye exercises a habit, you will naturally and automatically do them as part of your regular anti-aging skin care routine and so will gain the most benefit from them as a result.

Eye Area Face Exercises

We are going to be looking at how to work out the muscles around the eyes with the following four eye exercises.

• Eye area face exercise

• Crow’s feet face exercise

• Droopy eyelids face exercise

• Bags underneath eyelids face exercise

Whole Eye Area

This is a very easy face yoga exercise that can be done almost anytime and anywhere. It will gently help to strengthen all the muscles around your whole eye area.

• Close one eye and gently press the top eyelid against the lower eyelid.

• Open your eye.

• Repeat this 20-50 times for each eye.

If you lightly touch the skin around your eye when you are doing this workout, you will be able to feel the muscles contracting underneath your eye, to the sides and above your eyebrow. These are the muscles that you are strengthening with this eye exercise, and over time they will become firmer and tighter.

If you are concerned about wrinkling of the skin when doing this workout, you may be closing your eyelids too tightly together. If not, then some people find it helpful to place a finger or two on the skin so that it doesn’t crease up.

Note: this facial exercise can also be done by only closing your eye half way, as though you were doing a half wink.

Crow’s Feet Wrinkles

Crow’s feet are the fine wrinkles that people get in the outside corners of their eyes. They can occur prematurely in people who smile or squint a lot, and if left untreated, can eventually develop into very deep and noticeable wrinkles that really make a person look aged beyond their years.

This face exercise can be used to prevent those wrinkles from appearing, or reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles.

• Place one finger vertically at the sides of each eye.

• Close your eyes working against the resistance created by your fingers.

• Open your eyes.

• Repeat this 20 times.

If you are doing this crow’s feet eye exercise correctly, then you should feel your fingers being pulled in slightly. An alternative method is to place your fingertips in the corners of your eyes, and some people find this to be easier and more effective. If you do use your fingertips however, please make sure that your hands are clean as you are putting your fingers very close to the corners of your eyes.

Droopy Upper Eyelids

As you age your eyelids will naturally start to sag. In some cases, the eyelids can sag so much that they seem to cover most of the eyes. This can not only make a person look old, but can also give them a permanent “tired look” to their face.

This face exercise will help to prevent droopy eyelids from developing, or reduce the appearance of existing droopy eyelids. Although, it should be noted that if you have very droopy eyelids then facial exercises probably won’t be very effective for you. Instead, you are likely to benefit the most from cosmetic surgery for upper eyelids.

• Place four fingers horizontally underneath the bottom of your eyebrow. Alternatively, place one finger horizontally running along the bottom of your eyebrow.

• Lower your eyebrow, pushing against the resistance created by your fingers.

• Raise your eyebrows.

• Repeat 30 times.

Note : This facial exercise for droopy eyelids can be done with both eyes at the same time, or one eye individually. You may get better control doing one eye at a time.

Bags Underneath The Eyes

Saggy eye bags can make a person look old and tired, and tend to get progressively worse with age if left untreated. Use this face exercise to prevent bags from appearing underneath the eyes, or remove/reduce existing bags.

• Place four fingers horizontally beneath your eye, roughly in line with the end of your nose. Alternatively, use one finger paced horizontally.

• Close your eye working against the resistance created by your fingers and hold momentarily.

• Open your eye and repeat 20 times.

• Repeat for the other eye.

After doing these facial eye exercises you may notice a slight burning sensation in your facial muscles. This is normal and indicates that you are doing the exercises correctly and that your muscles got a good workout. You can quickly get rid of this burn by gently massaging your facial skin.

Facial Exercise Notes

If you are trying to address a specific area of your face, such as removing crow’s feet, removing droopy eyelids or removing bags underneath the eyes, then it is recommended that you do the specific facial exercises that target those areas of the face.

Otherwise, it is best to do the first facial eye exercise, as it helps to strengthen all the surrounding eye muscles. But you will always get better results when you use your fingers, as this creates more resistance for your muscles to work against and strengthen.

One side effect that you may notice when doing these eye exercises, is that your vision may start to improve as a result of increased blood circulation to the eyes.
