Rajasthan is one of the most visited tourist destinations in India. Those who are more attracted towards Royal Heritage and mysteries of eastern lands, are warmly welcomed by Rajasthan.
There are several historical cities in the state which are very worthy of being visited. However some of its most important and eye-catching destinations are:
Ajmer
The city of the most popular saint of East, Hazrat Nizamm-ud-din Auliya is an attraction for people of all religions alike.
The Shrine of this saint is a beautiful artefact of Mughal architecture, and several legendary tales are associated with it.
Jaipur
literally meaning “the City of Victory” is the gateway to the state of Rajasthan. The glorious Royal palaces and stunning forts of Rajput Era, make this city a dreamland for the adventurous and history lovers.
Some of its most prominent landmarks are Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal & Jaigarh Fort.
Udaipur
Also known as the City of Lakes, the historical capital city of the former Kingdom of Mewar was described by Rosita Forbes as a place which has no equal on Earth.
The city is surrounded by several beautiful lakes and royal palaces, and gives a look of eastern heaven on Earth. Most of the tourists visit its famous City Palace, Lake Palace and Jag-Mandir.
Jodhpur
Also known as “ The Sun City”, Jodhpur is settled in the stunning landscape of Thar-Desert.
Jodhpur attracts thousands of tourists annually, who visit its beautiful and elegant royal-palaces, rocky forts and ancient and mysterious temples.
Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mehrangarh Fort, Kaylana Lake and Osiyan temple are some of its best attractions.
Navigation & Travelling In The State
In addition to car and jeep rental services available throughout the state, almost all cities have public transport in the form of busses and coasters.
Various private travel agencies also plan trips all around the state. However, the government tourism department also runs several luxurious busses in major cities of the state.
Railway is also a better substitute for road travelling as its quick and the services of several trains is excellent and up to a high standard.
A very famous and popular train ride is known as “Palace on Wheels”, which is a week’s long luxury ride that takes the visitors into the interiors of the desert state of Rajasthan to closely watch the scenic views of Dunes and Oasis.
Accommodation & Best Visiting Times
The months of July till March are considered the best seasons to visit the state. Several luxurious hotels and guest-houses can be found in almost all of the cities of the state.
The distinct character of these hotels is their historical significance. This is because many of the royal-palaces have been turned into hotels today, which gives a very unique experience to the visitors.
