How To Deal With Guilt

Guilt is something people feel when they do something they think they shouldn’t have done, or because they feel that they are responsible for something that shouldn’t have happened.

When you feel guilty about something you start to feel bad about it, and the guiltier you feel, the worse the pain gets. Guilt can therefore be quite a useful thing, as it discourages people from repeatedly doing bad things.

However, sometimes people experience what psychologists call “unjustified guilt”, where they are feeling guilt for something which was not their fault or for something that they had no control over.

In this section we look at the different types of guilt that people suffer from, cases when you should not be feeling guilt and what can happen if you feel guilty over the wrong things.
