How To Overcome Your Fears

Fear is a biological defence mechanism that is designed to protect you from danger. When you fear something you try to avoid it, and if you do come into contact with it, you do everything in your power to try and get away from it as quickly as possible.

Whilst fear certainly can be useful in life or death situations, the majority of fears that people suffer from actually pose them no physical threat.

This type of fear is what psychologists call irrational fears, because they are fears of harmful outcomes which will not really occur.

What makes fears so powerful is their self reinforcing tendency. For example, if you run away from what you fear the fear usually becomes stronger, which then makes it harder to overcome.

However, once you begin to understand how fear works and why you have learnt to fear something, it becomes much easier to conquer.

This section will tell you all the important things you need to know about fear, and some strategies you can use to overcome the fears in your life.
