Understanding Your Seven Chakras
The following article was written by Mr. Kim, who is from Pakistan. He is a student of neuro-psychology, and interested in topics related to self-improvement, social relationships, mind sciences and metaphysics.Â
What Are The 7 Chakras?
In the previous article we looked closely at the ancient theory and explanation of chakras. Now we shall look into the modern science and try to find exactly what chakras are.
The Endocrine System

Interestingly, with the discovery of the human endocrine system the ancient theory of chakras has started to make a lot of sense.
We find that these chakras are mostly mentioned exactly at the point where we find several glands in the endocrine system.
Wikipedia states this about Endocrine system.
“The endocrine system is a system of small organs that involve the release of extracellular signaling molecules known as hormones.
The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating metabolism, growth, development and puberty, and tissue function and also plays a part in determining mood.
The field of medicine that deals with disorders of endocrine glands is endocrinology, a branch of the wider field of internal medicine.”
There are basically eight glands in the endocrine system but the eighth gland is subjected to the gender. If you are male then female glands would not be operational in you and vice versus.
So basically the active or operational glands are seven in number. These glands with their brief descriptions are as following:
1. Pituitary (Crown Chakra) Color Indigo/Violet

It is an important link between the nervous system and the endocrine system and releases many hormones which affect growth, sexual development, metabolism and the system of reproduction.
Classically due to its very important role it is considered as “the Master Gland’ because all other six glands are subservient to it.
2. Pineal (Third Eye Chakra) Color Purple/Lavender

The pineal gland (also called the pineal body, epiphysis cerebri, epiphysis or the “third eye”) is a small endocrine gland in the vertebrate brain.
It produces melatonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and photoperiodic (seasonal) functions.
3. Thyroid (Throat Chakra) Color Blue/Cyan

The thyroid is one of the largest endocrine glands in the body. This gland is found in the neck inferior to (below) the thyroid cartilage (also known as the Adam’s apple in men) and at approximately the same level as the cricoid cartilage.
The thyroid controls how quickly the body burns energy, makes proteins, and how sensitive the body should be to other hormones.
4. Thymus (Heart Plexus Chakra) Color Green/Emerald

The thymus is a gland that forms part of the immune system. It is situated in the upper part of the chest, behind the breastbone, and is made up of two lobes that join in front of the trachea. Its function is to transform lymphocytes (white blood cells developed in the bone marrow) into T-cells (cells developed in the thymus).
These cells are then transported to various lymph glands, where they play an important part in fighting infections and disease.
5. Adrenal (Solar Plexus Chakra) Color Yellow/Gold

The adrenal glands are a pair of glands that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. Each gland can be divided into two distinct organs.
They take instruction from the pituitary glands and have important effects on physical characteristics, development and growth.
The inner layer makes two types of hormones and takes all its instructions from the nervous system, producing chemicals which react to fear and anger and are sometimes called “fight or flight” hormones.
6. Pancreas (Sacral Chakra) Color Orange/Tan

The pancreas is a long, tapered gland which lies across and behind the stomach. This gland secretes digestive juices which break down fats, carbohydrates, proteins and acids; it also secretes bicarbonate, which neutralises stomach acid as it enters the duodenum.
Some cells in the pancreas secrete hormones which regulate the level of glucose in the blood.
7. Testes / Ovary (Root Chakra) Color Red/dark Brown

These glands are solely responsible for reproduction and sexual activities.
Chakras And Glands Are Synonyms?
The above mentioned facts make it highly likely that chakras, as discovered by ancients, were basically endocrine glands that were detected through deep meditations. They can perfectly be considered as energy centers as hormones are a liquid form of such energy.
However, the interesting fact being revealed over here is this that these glands can be healed through proper intention and practice of mind, without any medication.
A true Meditation can heal these glands to secrete the required ratio of hormones accordingly to keep the body healthy.

As we observed that Pituitary Gland is considered as master gland and similarly crown chakra is the highest chakra of all, therefore if proper attention and healing is directed towards crown alone, it can bring long lasting results. However, the results would be slower to be detected.
How To Heal Different Chakras/Glands?
If one is willing to get results faster, they should start healing their chakras in an ascending order. How to heal any chakra is described in the article “How to activate Crown Chakra”.
One can do all the same exercises but rather then thinking of crown chakra, one can think of the other chakra, such as third eye or root.

But, the colours would be changed. So the PowerPoint presentation I gave in the practical exercise would need to be changed. You can easily customise it and can change it into the required color.
Also during breathing exercise while inhaling, one should visualise the associated colour of the chakra. For example, if trying to heal the Heart Chakra then the colour green has to be used /visualised.
Are Chakras Present In Our Aura?
Viewing an aura is different for different people. However, according to my personal experiences and research so far, I have reached the conclusion that the aura does not possess these chakras.
An aura consists of seven or more colours but these colors are scattered in it layer wise. Just like we see in thermal-vision, similarly an aura has colours but does not contain the chakras inside it.

Summary
Ancients did a marvelous job in identifying the chakras at the time when there was a very little information available about human anatomy.
This strongly advocates that our mind possesses many latent powers which are not dependent upon technological advancements.
If one can discover and invoke these abilities accordingly, one can live a very healthy and prosperous life without receiving the side-effects which are mostly brought through technology.
Each technology always brings some side-effects and especially in the case of medical science, side effects are imperative. However natural healings never bring any side effects and this is its very positive aspect.
In the next article we will talk about how to do a true meditation.
