Should We Know About Our Future?
The following article was written by Mr. Kim, who is from Pakistan. He is a student of neuro-psychology, and interested in topics related to self-improvement, social relationships, mind sciences and metaphysics.
Should We Listen To Predictions About The Future?
Mankind has always been fascinated with the fore-knowledge of the future, and has always struggled to somehow get to know what the future holds for them.

Since ancient times we note that cultures and cults have devised many ways through which a person could look into their future.
Looking into the future, over here, means that someone tries to know what will happen to them in the next day, week, month or year.
Will their project be successful or not? Will their love last for long? And similar sorts of questions which depend upon a “yes” or “no” response.
Who Asks The Question?

The questions regarding the future are asked by almost every person who has a normal level of consciousness.
This is because when a person feels insecure for any reason regarding a particular question, or has doubts regarding the expected outcomes, or needs reassurance for a certain outcome, or becomes anxious to know the result before its time is due, they look for some authority figure or someone reliable enough who could satisfy their answers accordingly.
Who Tells The Future?

Conventionally, the future is told by spiritual figures and psychic people. In ancient times the gods, goddesses or Greek heroes were consulted for knowing the future.
With the advent of writing methods this question was shifted towards classical subjects like Omens, Palmistry, Numerology, Astrology and Prophecies.
Now in the modern era, the most popular methods are psychic abilities, oracles, tarot cards, playing cards, ghost boards and clairvoyance.
Fortune Telling Makes A Fortune!

In modern times especially, with the advent of cyber space, people who tell the fortunes of others have actually earned millions of fortunes themselves just by giving lip-service.
So far this is one of the most promising businesses in my view, which has generated such profit ratios in spiritual entrepreneurship.
The abovementioned methods of modern time are actually an evolved form of ancient and classical fortune telling manners.
Now we shall look into this interesting question from a scientific and rational point of view, and find the answer of whether knowing the future is really good for us?
Scientific Perspective Of Fortune Telling

Empirically and scientifically, futuristic prophecies are strongly dismissed because they heavily lack the verification methods and reliable data.
However science confirms the future estimations and this is widely recognised and an integral part of any scientific study.
For example, a physicist estimates that if a car would move with an x speed per km/hour, then it would reach to the x destination on x time.
This is also a sort of future prediction, but which is based upon objective observations and calculations.
On the other hand, the future telling systems such as astrology and horoscopes have also tried to make predictions based upon calculations and observations.
For example, an astrologist would predict that if the planet x would be in your house of wealth on x day then you would face trouble or happiness (any one only).

Interestingly, when a physicist would make a future estimation, he would produce all available data to verify and backup his calculations.
On the other hand an astrologist would present mostly subjective calculations which are based upon faith alone.
For example, who told or why is it told that x planet is a symbol of wealth, and x position is inauspicious for the person?
Basically, this mist of mystery creates a powerful reason of belief that a certain thing is for certain reason and effect.
When people normally don’t understand something, they associate it with some unseen mysterious forces and try to interpret their future according to those associations.
The Psychology Of Fortune

The field of fortune telling is basically more a domain of psychological studies then the natural sciences.
As in my previous article in which I described that “how black magic works”, on similar lines when we are told by some perceived authority figure that this would definitely happen to us and then we are provided with a lot of so-called evidence to get us convinced.
Then a time comes when our subconscious accepts this “instruction” and creates the desired future accordingly by affecting our actions and thoughts and sometimes by also activating the “Subconscious Internet”.
Please note that for those matters of which our mind has no information and is blank, the subconscious accepts any new information or instruction very quickly.

For example, you don’t know that how many kids there will be when you get married. The mind is completely blank at this time.
Now suppose an oracle tells you that you would be blessed with 5 kids. Then it is highly likely that you may really get 5 kids, and no matter how more or less you would wish, it would not go beyond 5.
This is because birth control is also one of the anatomical functions of our subconscious mind and it has accepted the instruction for having 5 kids from a perceived authority figure.
To know about more the role of authority figures in persuasion please read Martin’s article, “The Power Of Authority In Persuasion”.
What If We Don’t Believe?

Suppose we don’t believe what the oracle is telling to us and instead make fun of it, then the chances shall decrease somewhat but not completely.
This is because it was information of which our subconscious had no previous knowledge at all and even if we dismiss the validity of this new information, it would still be kept and stored by the subconscious as a reference in short and long term memory. And so the chances are there that the mind might act accordingly.
Therefore, the most important thing to remember is the listening of a future prophecy by any means, and whether you personally believe it or not, as it could have considerable effects.
The Best Solution

The best course of action is to never read / listen to any future predictions by any person whatsoever. If you believe that the person is going to tell you something positive then you may listen, but if you feel that there would be some negativity then you should refuse to listen or read.
Try yourself to completely abstain from reading any weekly or monthly horoscopes, psychic readings and palm readings.
Is It Harmful To Know The Future?

It is not completely harmful as if someone would tell you a positive possibility, then it would have a good effect over your future.
For example, someone tells you that your palm lines indicate that you would get rich within 3 months, so nothing is bad and rather it’s a glad tiding.
However because we are surrounded by people who actually want to earn money by this business, they will often say something negative to the customer so that they will become afraid and then ask for its remedy.
They would then prescribe several strange methods or talismans, which are to be worn to remove the negativity.

You are told that unless you not wear this particular talisman, you are going to face so & so trouble. Mostly these talismans / charts cost hundreds of dollars.
This all, in my opinion, is a simple playing stupid with the person and; the actual power to fight any negativity is inside us that is our own faith and self-confidence.
Similarly these professional psychics would sometime tell you positive things also but they would also be conditional as you should buy a certain report or a certain locket to attract that fortune otherwise, you would miss it.

This all in terms of professionalism is a business of fraud and chance. We should know that the thing that actually matters is the amount of our belief as to how much we believe a thing could occur or not.
Secondly, the Universe is also having its own rules and spiritual laws by which everyone is treated accordingly.
So Should We Close Our Eyes?

Yes, in these cases the best thing for us is to close our eyes and don’t get over anxious to know that what is in future for us.
Rather take a scientific approach. We can always make a more powerful future prediction ourselves if we take the following measures;
1. Evaluate your past and see if you are revising any of the mistakes of your past in present also?
2. As much mistakes you are repeating, as much there are chances of you being unsuccessful again.
3. Keep an eye on your present and identify the measures which you can take to improve your present life.
4. The improvement in present life will definitely and eventually bring an improved and successful future.
Warning

• Don’t read about how your day will be today.
• Don’t read if stars are favouring your career or not.
• Don’t read your horoscopes or if those of your loved one match or not.
• Don’t read about world predictions.
• Don’t let your hands be read.
• Don’t participate in any ghost board activities.
I am very strongly of this opinion that man is the writer of his own destiny, and we should not allow others to write about our fate.
Taking a sincere and honest advice from someone is something else and rather beneficial, but asking for future predictions could be very harmful in certain cases.
So always keep yourself away from this kind of stuff and automatically you will be saved from a lot of unwanted stress and anxiety.
Note: I don’t deny that such knowledge regarding the future does not exist, but I have found that firstly very rarely can people really tell about the future and secondly it is always better to not to know about it in advance.
