Skin Care Advice For People In Their 30’s
Skin Care In Your 30’s
Whilst you may not have the skin of a 20 year old, skin in your 30’s can still look young, healthy and attractive without any lines or wrinkles on your face. But this really depends on how well you have treated your face so far.
Wrinkles & Expression Lines
There are two major factors which will determine whether or not you get lines or wrinkles in your 30’s : sun exposure and your facial expressions.
Sun Exposure
The first is the amount of unprotected sun exposure you received. So if you spent a lot of time outside trying to get a tan by not wearing any sunscreen, or you spent lots of time under a sunbed, now is the time in your 30’s that the effects of that UV exposure will start to show.
Facial Expressions
The second factor which determines how many lines or wrinkles you will have is your level of facial animation.

If for example you laughed a lot when you were younger you may have small “smile lines” in the corners of your eyes.
If you frowned a lot you may have wrinkles between your brow. If you raised your eyebrows a lot you may have wrinkles on your forehead.

However it should be noted that these are not true wrinkles but rather expression lines, and don’t necessarily make your face look old.
Overall skin in your 30’s should look young, healthy and firm because you still have a lot of collagen and elastin to give your skin that youthful appearance.
Changes In Your Aging Skin
There will come a time in your 30’s when your skin starts to noticeably change from how it used to be. This is roughly the time when your metabolism starts to slow down, and your muscle mass begins to decline.
During this period the rate at which your skin cells turn over also slows down. No longer does it take 21-28 days for your skin to renew itself like it did in your 20’s, now it can take up to 40 days.
As a result of all these changes your skin may start to show fine wrinkles in your mid to late 30’s, and earlier if you were exposed to a lot of unprotected sun when you were younger.

Your skin may also start to sag slightly as collagen and elastin levels begin to drop. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, your skin may start to sag even sooner.
Basic Skin Care Routines In Your 30’s
Despite the changes your skin is going through, it is important to remember that you are still young and that you have good skin which can look young and healthy if you look after it.
At minimum, your basic skin care routine should include cleansing, toning and moisturising twice a day.
It is very important that you always clean your face before you go to bed, because sleeping with a dirty face can cause your skin to become inflamed which will make your skin age faster.

It is also worth bearing in mind that no matter what you do to your skin on the outside, if you don’t treat your body well on the inside your skin will never be as good as it can be.
So make sure your exercise regularly, get to bed before 11pm, avoid eating junk food and don’t smoke.
Remember, how well you treat your skin in your 30’s will determine how good your skin looks in your 40’s. Just as how your skin looks now is a reflection of how well you looked after it in your 20’s.
Skin Exfoliation
Since your skin is turning over at a slower rate it would benefit from regular exfoliation to help remove dead skin cells from the surface.
For skin in your 30’s, glycolic acid exfoliation products are recommended, ideally at least once a week, and up to two to three times a week based on your skin type and need.

Glycolic acid is particularly advantageous as a skin care product because it has been shown to help the skin rebuild collagen, thereby reducing the appearance of fine wrinkles and delaying the appearance of future wrinkles.
In addition to this, getting a chemical peel once a month will also help to keep your skin looking healthy.
Day To Day Living & Skin Health
Exercise is very important for healthy skin because it supplies it with oxygenated blood that nourishes it whilst also helping to remove toxins.
Getting plenty of sleep is another thing you should be aiming for. In your 20’s you may have been able to stay up late and still look good the next morning, but in your 30’s if you do this your face is likely to become swollen and develop bags or dark circles underneath your eyes in the morning.

Stress is another thing to watch out for because it causes inflammation in the body which then leads to wrinkles and sagging skin.
Inflammation can also be caused by the foods you eat, especially high carbohydrate sugary foods, caffeine and alcohol.
