How To Get Out Of Your Mind, To Understand Your Mind

Exercise To Understand Your Subconscious Mind

  • Your parents shaped your mind. But how well did they do it?
  • You are more like your parents than you think!
  • You have the power to shape your own mind!

shaping subconsciousThink of your childhood mind as a big block of stone. For roughly the first 6 years of your life, your parents were the sole sculptors of that stone.

They slowly chipped away at it, and shaped it in their own image.

This sculpted stone then became the base of who you are as a person today, and what other sculptors in your life have to work with.

So your mind is essentially a combination of both your parents minds, in addition to the things you do and experience in life.

Recognizing this provides you with a window into your subconscious, because by studying your parents minds, you can then objectively study your own.

Finding Your Mind

To do this exercise you must observe how your parents act and how they behave. What are their characteristics? Angry? Happy? Patient? Impatient? etc…

The more things you can notice about the way your parents act, the better you will know the factors that helped to shape your mind as a child.

However it is important to only study them, not ask them questions. As you are looking for natural learned behavior, not biased information.

By learned behavior I mean things that they do naturally, because this reveals the type of programming they received as children, and therefore most likely passed onto you.

I have done this exercise myself and it was surprising to note how many things I did similar to my parents, even though I thought I was very different from them.

It was little things such as behavior, or how they spoke which I could see similarities with the way I acted and spoke. These are things I would never have noticed, if I had not “studied” them first.

This is why this exercise can be so powerful. By looking at your parents characteristics you can objectively step out your own mind, to look at the factors that created it.

In other words, by studying the minds of your parents, you can study your own.

Other Factors Also Sculpt The Mind

Whilst your parents did have a big role in shaping your mind, it is equally important to recognize that they were not the sole sculptors.

For example, if you left home at a young age then your parents were likely to have less influence on your mind, than had you left when you were older.

As a result your own actions, the people you meet and the experiences you have in your life, therefore also play a big role in shaping your mind.

Although generally speaking, the very core of who you are is always found as a combination of your parents efforts to sculpt the stone that is your mind.

What this means is that whilst your parents may have given you the mind you have today, you have the power to change it by what you do and what you experience. You can become your own sculptor.

By understanding the very core of your mind (through studying your parents) you will then be given the power to target and change specific subconscious limiting beliefs or behaviors, you may have acquired during your childhood. And up until now, may have been unaware of.

So if it is possible for you to do so, take the time to study or think about your parents personality characteristics. Then see if any of those characteristics were passed onto you. Once you have done this, you must then ask yourself if you want to keep these characteristics or change them.

The next few articles are going to take a closer look at some of the key areas that are responsible for determining how children turn out as adults.
