Regaining Natural Creativity
- You are already a highly creative person!
- Negative thoughts and feelings are the creative minds worst enemy!
- Positive thoughts and feelings will improve the ideas you have, so relax!
Creativity
In the last article I discussed the importance of creative thinking and how creativity is something that comes naturally to children.
However this creativity is often discouraged from an early age and consequently the developing adult tends to lack a creative mind.

This article will focus on regaining that creativity, so that your mind will become “flexible” again and open to new ideas and ways of thinking. One day some of those ideas may even make you a million!
First Step To Regaining Your Creativity
I want to make it absolutely clear that you are already an extremely creative person, who is capable of thousands of good ideas. So please don’t “wait” until you develop your creativity, because that will never happen.
Rather you should view the following information as ways to “regain” your natural creativity because as I have already said, you never lost your creative mind you simply forgot about it due to discouragement and disuse.
So from now on see yourself as a highly creative person, and have faith in yourself that good ideas will come to you when the time is right.

Negative Emotions Block Creativity
Did you know that when you are angry, upset, stressed or consumed with any kind of negative emotion, your body shuts down areas of the brain that are needed for creative thought?
Well it’s true.
This occurs because when the body is consumed with a negative emotion such as anger, logical thinking areas of the brain are shut down leaving you with only the emotional functions needed to think.
However emotional thinking is usually very poor and causes us to make bad decisions which we may later regret, and so is not much use when trying to think creatively.

If you would like a more detailed explanation of how negative emotions effect the brain, please see this video lecture on how thoughts effect the body.
Creativity Favors The Relaxed Mind
Creativity is most easily accessed when you are in a relaxed state of mind and are feeling calm, happy and comfortable.

This means that the more positive you can become when working, the greater will be the quality and quantity of your ideas.
Don’t Worry!
So the next time you start worrying about how much work you have to do or how difficult it is, stop and say to yourself “these negative thoughts are blocking me from accessing my creative mind and are making things worse”.

The exact phrasing doesn’t matter, but the point is to recognise negative thoughts and feelings when you are working and then stop them.
Have A Break
If you want, have a short break and do something else, even it means going to the toilet! Just make sure that you relax your mind, and when you return to your work you will find it much easier to continue.
Stay Positive!
So remember, always stay relaxed and positive when solving a problem, and have a confident attitude that you will discover what you are looking for because the answer is already within you.
